Betty Sue Shears was born July 12, 1939 to the late Leonard and Beatrice Keel in McCaskill, Arkansas. She became a member of the Garrett Chapel Baptist Church. She was a founding member of the Greater Hope Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she served as choir president, member of the missionary society, Southwest District Choir and Division B choir. She was the song leader of SWD and section II. She was also the president of the hospitality committee.
She attended Yeager High School. She was a member of the Yerger Alumni Association. She retired from Champion Parts and UACCH. She was well known for her culinary skills. Everyone who knew her loved her greens and her pound cake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip Shears and her siblings: Floyd, Frank, Barbara, and Shirley, and her niece Vera Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memory:
Her children: Margie(Wayne) Thrower, Dorothy(Charles) Wright, Frederick Shears, Sheila Shears, Felicia(Whitney) Shears.
Six sisters: Georgia Hickles, Liddy(Willie) Smith, Doris Brown, Emma Brags, Ernestine Burton of Hope, Arkansas. Gloria Johnson of Dallas, Texas.
Six grandchildren: Anthony, Angela, Rodney, Whitney, Quincy, Phillip and Jayden.
Ten great grandchildren: Tierra, Rashad, Deon, Zayla, Makayla, Keasia, Gymea, Bailey, Kiyana, Kincy and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
Visitation will be 12-5 p.m., family hour 5-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at Garrett Chapel Baptist Church in Hope. Burial will be at Scott’s Memorial Gardens, Perrytown. Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
