FULTON, AR – The Miller County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in early Thursday morning at The Boll Weevil where someone used a vehicle as a battering ram to enter the building.

Miller County Deputies, Hempstead County Deputies and Texarkana, AR Police Officers responded to a call around 1:40 a.m. of someone reportedly driving a truck through the door and entering the building. When law enforcement arrived on scene, the subject or subjects had already left the scene. Hempstead County Deputies and Texarkana Police left the scene to Miller County deputies and investigators.

William Simpson, one of the owners of The Boll Weevil and Cotton Patch, arrived on scene around 2 a.m. and checked the building with deputies. Simpson said the subject crashed a truck through the side door and made his way through the store, briefly eyeing the safe before making off with a large number of cigarettes. Simpson and his partners purchased the stores in 2013. He said he works in the stores and has enjoyed it due to the customers despite the floods and occassional break-ins.

Miller County Sheriff Jackie Runion said his investigators are working the case and, as of this afternoon, are not ready to make an arrest yet. We are still waiting for information from the investigators regarding specific details and the identity of a suspect or suspects. We will update when we learn more.
