Mattie Lou Gulley was born May 7, 1947 in Prescott, Arkansas to Jack Gulley and Geneva Young Gulley. She was educated in the McRae school system and graduated from McRae High School in 1965.
As a teenager Mattie’s gift of singing and playing the piano emerged and she began using her talent in the church. Her talent continued to grow throughout her adult life and she was often called to serve by numerous churches and organizations in the community.
Mattie married Nathan Tidwell on May 28, 1967 and four children were born from this union. They were married 49 years before Nathan’s passing in 2016. Mattie was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
She retired from Prescott Manor Nursing Center in October 2017 after 26 years of loyal service.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, husband and five siblings. She is lovingly remembered by her children Nathan Tidwell Jr. of Newport News, Virginia; Adrianne Jones of Magnolia, Arkansas; O.J. Tidwell (Tarra) of Mansfield, Texas; and Justin Tidwell of Prescott, Arkansas; grandchildren Annika Tidwell and Oren Tidwell of Mansfield, Texas and Crissana Jones of Magnolia, Arkansas; siblings Edna Sue Goodwin of Rockford, Illinois; Charles Gulley (Margaret) of Rockford, Illinois; Jacqueline Kaleem of Bryan, Texas; and Gwendolyn Gulley-Pleasant (Otis) of Quincy, Illinois; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 1p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Prescott. Burial will be at Deann Cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
