UPDATED 2:14 P.M. According to information from the Fort Smith Police Department, it was falsely reported to police that a 14-year-old juvenile male was asleep in the backseat of a 2005 Malibu when it was stolen in Fort Smith this morning, resulting in an AMBER Alert and manhunt. According to sources, the teen was actually with his father in Fayetteville, AR at the time of the incident.

Police reportedly were told by the teen’s uncle that he was in the car when it was stolen. There was no answer as to why the uncle allegedly made the false claim which resulted in and AMBER Alert being issued.

The Fort Smith PD inactivated the AMBER Alert about an hour after issuing it once they were notified and confirmed the teen was safe and never in the car or taken.
