The old Dox Sporting Goods building on 2nd St in downtown Hope was demolished Tuesday afternoon.

The building is one of a few in the downtown area that had fallen into disrepair over the years. According to City Manager Catherine Cook, the building is owned by JHB Properties, llc. Cook said the original notice was sent to the owners in May of 2013. They worked with local representatives over the next two years until the final condemnation proceedings took place in January of 2015.

According to Cook, the demolition is being carried out by Tatum Excavating Company out of Texarkana, TX at a cost of $37,500. Cook said the city contracted the company and is paying for the demolition to remove the hazard to the public. Cook said the owners will be invoiced.  If JHB doesn’t reimburse the city, a lien will be placed on the property.
