An elderly woman was injured Thursday afternoon in a collision with a log truck on the bypass in Hope.

According to witnesses, the woman was driving her Chevrolet Malibu south on the Bill Clinton Bypass during the late afternoon traffic when she suddenly pulled into the oncoming lane. Witnesses said that when she met an oncoming log truck she, the woman veered onto the northbound shoulder, striking the right side of the log truck and trailer in several places before spinning around and coming to a stop in the middle of the highway.

Witnesses called 911 and went to check on the woman. Hope Police Department, Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office and Pafford EMS all responded to the crash.

The first officer on scene checked on the woman in the Malibu while other arriving officers took control of the traffic backed up traffic which they were able to move slowly through the scene one car at a time.

Pafford EMS arrived on scene and examined the woman before transporting her to Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope.
