UPDATE 2-24-2017 11:30 p.m.: According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, a Lafayette County Deputy attempted a stop on a white Honda Accord for crossing a double yellow line. The car failed to stop and then accelerated to 90 mph initially. As the pursuit crossed into Hempstead County the Honda accelerated to 110 mph. The deputy requested Hempstead County and Arkansas State Police be notified. As the pursuit continued into Hempstead County and eventually Hope, Hope Police took lead in the pursuit before the Accord turned onto side roads and was temporarily lost. Hope Police found the car abandoned a short time later at Highway 278 East and Lakeshore Drive.


Law enforcement is searching for an individual who led police on a high-speed chase before apparently fleeing on foot.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit that began in Lafayette County and ended in Hope Friday night shortly before 9 p.m.

Witnesses reportedly observed a white Honda come into town on 29 South at a high rate of speed being pursued by police at approximately 8:45 p.m. The car is said to have continued north on Main St before turning off onto side roads.

Officers with the Hope Police Department located the car abandoned at a house at the intersection of Highway 278 East and Lakeshore Drive but the driver apparently fled on foot. Officers searched the area on foot but did not locate the subject.

Hempstead County Deputies, a Hope Police Officer and an Arkansas State Trooper initiated a stop on a vehicle on Highway 67 east of Highway 73 that was apparently thought to possibly contain the driver of the white Honda but an arrest of the subject was not made at the stop.

Police were observed searching and impounding the car but are still looking for the subject.
