A 19-year-old Hope woman is jailed and facing charges for stabbing a woman and sexual indecency with a child.
According to Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton, Iris Luna was arrested Sunday, February 19 when she turned herself in at he Hempstead County Detention Center lobby following a stabbing that occurred earlier that night.
Sheriff Singleton said Deputy Landon Loe was dispatched to the stabbing in the 5000 block of Highway 278 West at 9:01 p.m. Sunday night. Upon arrival Deputy Loe made contact with the stabbing victim who identified herself as Teresa Torres but was later identified as Delma Torres.
According to the Sheriff, Torres told Deputy Loe that they were having a small party when Luna approached her and asked if Torres had a problem with her. Torres reported that Luna then produced a knife and stabbed her in the right calf and attempted to stab her in the stomach and chest. Torres reported that she threw Luna to the ground and wrestled the knife from her.
Torres told Deputy Loe that Luna then fled the scene in a Red GMC Yukon with her two children.
A crew from Pafford EMS arrived on the scene and administered aid to Torres and transported her to Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, TX.
At approximately 11:25 p.m. the same night, Luna turned herself in at the Hempstead County Detention Center and was placed under arrest. She was booked for Battery 2nd Degree for the stabbing and for a felony warrant out of Hope. According to the Hope Police Department, the warrant was for sexual indecency with a child stemming from an incident that occurred at 10:03 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in the 800 block of W 6th St. in Hope.
Luna is awaiting her first court appearance.
